- The Act stipulates that any worker who sustained injuries due to an occupational accident or acquired an occupational disease due to and during time of employment is to be compensated.
- The Act also stipulates that in the event that any worker dies from an occupational accident or an occupational disease, his dependant is to be compensated.
- Occupational accident or occupational hazard is an accident that occurs in the course of employment by the hazards that are inherent to it.
- ‘Workmen’ is defined by workers employed under a contract of service.)
- The employer is required to insure foreign workers under the Foreign Workers Compensation Scheme through any insurance companies appointed by the Human Resources Minister.
- In the case of occupational accidents, the employer must provide a written notice to the nearest Labour Department within 10 days of incident.

Income refers to the amount of money received by a worker including any interest payment and facilities that can be valued monetarily except:
- Travelling allowance;
- Travel concession;
- Employer’s contribution towards pension fund;;
- Reimbursement on work-related expenses by the worker.
- It means that a worker is not able to perform his work in his full capacity temporarily, until he recovers from his injuries.
- It means that a worker is not able to perform any work until he recovers from his injuries.
- It means that a worker is not able to work in his full capacity permanently due to the injuries he sustained from an accident. He may not be able to perform his job as efficient or as fast as previously.
- It means that a worker is not able to perform any work permanently.
- ‘Dependents’ are the family members who are dependent on the worker for living.
- Family members refer to spouse, parents including step-parents, grandparents, children including step-children and siblings including half- and step-siblings.
- Injuries sustained under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unless if the accident causes death.
- Disability or death caused by intentional injury or injuries sustained by intentional accident.

- The maximum pay out for permanent disability cases is RM23,000.00
- The total pay out amount for death cases is RM18,000.00 + RM7000.00 (SPPA) = RM25,000.00
- The pay out amount for these cases is RM23,000.
